A small thorny deciduous native tree or small bush with dark green, ovate leaves, and small white flowers in early spring, followed by ovoid, bloomy black fruits, excellent for Sloe Gin making.
Likes any moist but well drained soil in full sun/partial shade.
Ideal for a larger garden (or keep under control), coastal and wildlife gardens, or can be used as hedging.
If left unchecked, it can produce suckers both upwards and outwards which may become a nuisance, so removal of these is advised unless you require a solid thick
